JUNE YUEN TING

June is a movement researcher, cultural worker and community organiser. “I am interested in movement making as community organising—or to put it differently, the devising of collective choreographic situations as the building of embodied relationships toward social transformation. I work in relationships. What I do comes from relationships—current, historical and ancestral —and I seek to build relationships in what I do.”

In June’s practice, the process of movement research unfolds in and through the relationships formed with collaborators. The work itself—the work of radical imagination for embodied liberation. It is this perspective on dance making as collective life making that has always been practised outside of the Western concert dance tradition and beyond the proscenium stage that guides the direction of work.

“Joining Swindon Dance’s Professional Programme has marked a critcal point of transition in my journey as a dance maker and cultural worker.

Through the support, resources and advice offered to artists in the programme, I am able to focus on pursuing creative enquiries and realising creative projects as a freelance artist after completing postgraduate study.

The long term relationship I look forward to building with Swindon Dance during the 2-year period of the programme will also open up opportunities to explore future partnerships.”
